What are the characteristics of forgings compared with castings

The microstructure and mechanical properties of metal can be improved after forging. Due to metal deformation and recrystallization, the original coarse dendrites and columnar grains are transformed into equiaxed recrystallized grains with finer grains and uniform sizes. The original segregation, porosity, porosity and slag inclusion in the ingot are compacted and welded, and the structure becomes tighter, which improves the plastic and mechanical properties of the metal.
Generally speaking, the mechanical properties of castings are lower than those of forgings of the same material. In addition, forging processing can ensure the continuity of metal fiber tissue, so that the fiber tissue of the forging and the shape of the forging remain consistent, the metal flow line is complete, can ensure that the parts have good mechanical properties and long service life. The forging produced by precision forging, cold extrusion, warm extrusion and other processes are incomparable to castings.
Aircraft forgings
About 85% of the components of an aircraft by weight are forgings. The turbine disc of aircraft engine, rear journal (hollow shaft), blade, wing SPAR, fuselage rib plate, wheel support, inner and outer cylinder of landing gear and so on are all important forgings related to aircraft safety. Aircraft forgings are made of high-strength wear-resisting, corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy, titanium alloy, nickel-based alloy and other valuable materials. Diesel engine forging

Marine forging
Marine forgings are divided into three categories, main engine forgings, shafting forgings and rudder forgings. The main engine forging is the same as the diesel engine forging. Shafting forgings include thrust shaft, intermediate shaft and stern shaft. Rudder system forgings have rudder rod, rudder post, rudder pin, etc.
